Current Level 1 structure

The official Chinese Tests Service page states that HSK Level 1 has 40 questions across listening and reading and takes about 40 minutes, including five minutes for personal information. The total score is 200, with 120 as the passing mark. HSK scores are valid for two years from the test date.

Levels 2 and 3

Level 2 continues to test listening and reading. Level 3 adds a writing component. Exact timing, question structure, delivery mode, and registration arrangements should be checked on the official level page and your test-center notice, especially while new HSK 3.0 materials are being introduced.

A flexible study plan

There is no official promise that a beginner will reach Level 3 in a fixed number of months. Progress depends on prior language experience, daily time, instruction, pronunciation feedback, and exposure to characters.
